Why Learn from a Doula?

Doula are trusted guides who provide emotional and physical support, share valuable insights, and advocate for families during their pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum journey.

Our BirthWorks course is taught by UP Family Doula's owner Lacy Anderson, an experienced Doula, educator and mom of 3. This means you’ll gain real-world insights about what to expect at different birthing locations, how to navigate hospital procedures, and how to communicate your birth preferences with confidence. Experienced Doula's know the ins and outs of the hospital system and can help you feel prepared and empowered no matter where you choose to give birth.

A Doula’s role goes beyond providing information—they are advocates who ensure your voice is heard and your choices are respected. Doulas are also emotional and physical support pillars. With BirthWorks you’ll discover comfort measures that work in real labor settings, communication tips for effectively expressing your birth preferences, and emotional tools for staying calm and centered during the birthing process. Most importantly, you’ll gain the confidence to advocate for yourself and make informed decisions that feel right for you and your family.

Even if you haven’t hired a Doula (or aren’t sure if you want to), this course gives you a unique perspective on the value of continuous support during childbirth. It’s about feeling truly prepared, confident, and cared for—no matter what choices you make!
