MEET THE HEART & SOUL BEHIND UP FAMILY DOULA CARE
Hey there, I'm Lacy Anderson!
If you’re here, chances are you’re navigating a big life change. Pregnancy, birth, parenting - these seasons of life are just as powerful as they are tender. From Marquette to Houghton and all towns in between I love helping parents navigate every step of the journey with confidence, a compassionate heart, and a touch of humor.
As someone who struggled with keeping up with the daily demands of being a working wife and mom while managing postpartum anxiety / depression. I remember feeling so defeated when providers would check in and I would tell them “my story” and their response I would be “that’s hard, I’m sorry.” For years I had being offering education and emotional support to any local mom that needed it. By time I was having baby #2 I knew that “I’m sorry” was just not enough and that I needed more, but more was not an available option. I felt like the due date group on Baby Center was the only place I could get “real” mom to mom support.
Then one day I learn about “doulas” and I immediately turned to my husband and said, “This is exactly what I want to do, after this baby is born.” Looking back, it made perfect sense. Becoming a doula felt like a natural expression of who I am - supporting others with love, just showing up, sharing education and offering a helping hand.
Beyond Doula Care
In addition to being a doula I truly enjoy being a Board Member for BirthWorks International and being their Director of the Ambassador Program. Locally I am the founder of the Marquette County Car Seat Program and a committee member for the Marquette Community Baby Shower.
Through these roles, I help expand access to education, resources, provide mentorship and support for families and birth workers around the world.
I am proud to be a M.W.D.
"Mom, Wife, Doula!"
I live in Marquette County, and the Upper Peninsula has always been home. The lakes, the woods, and the sense of community captured my heart long ago, and this is where I knew I wanted to put down roots.
My husband and I have three energetic and wonderful kids: Caleb, Ariella, and Winslow. In the warmer months, you’ll usually find us camping, fishing (my husband and I get a little competitive over who catches the most fish!), or exploring the outdoors. Inside, I love a good audiobook or hosting friends and family for a meal and game night.
Despite the fact that I don’t enjoy coffee or chocolate, I always have enough energy to keep up with my kids, answer late night questions, and support families as their babies arrive on their own timelines.
As a family, we spend a lot of time learning - especially as I homeschool our children. Quality family time is incredibly important to me - whether it’s with my own family or helping other families create that same time and connection. Being a Doula allows me to care for families in a way that honors those moments, helping them feel empowered, seen, and supported throughout all of moments of pregnancy, labor, and early parenthood.

Here are some questions our doula team is frequently asked during a meet and greet call.
-
Evidence-based care is important, but it’s only one part of the story. I also honor the wisdom that’s been carried through generations and the knowledge lies within our bodies and our hearts. True care, to me, means blending science with intuition, knowledge with experience, and always trusting each woman’s feminine wisdom to make the choices that feel right for her and her family.

The name felt right because it reflects everything I value most, where I come from and what matters most to me. “UP” stands for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the place I’m proud to call home and serve. “Family” represents my heart. I have a deep love for family, my own and the ones I walk beside through this work. That love is the foundation of everything I do, guiding the way I support, connect, and care for each parent and baby I meet.
Every heartbeat, every tiny movement, every new life—each is a reminder of how fearfully and wonderfully we are created. It’s a joy to celebrate this miracle with the families I serve.
I feel so blessed to hear my clients say:
“your support was exactly what we needed.”
“Your classes are so much fun and I really liked that they are conversational and not rushed. I was able to ask questions whenever.”
“I really appreciated that you gave me all the options and explained it in a way that I could understand.”
“You helped me find my voice and I feel more confident and able to speak up for myself now.”
“I looked to you and could see that you weren’t worried which made me feel calm when everything felt overwhelming.”
“You were so good at reading the room and responding with care, for being a steady presence in the stressful moments.”
